ANNOUNCEMENT: Plotist to leave beta in October6 min read

by | Sep 13, 2017 | Plotist

On October 2nd, 2017, Plotist will officially be leaving beta. This is a huge step for the team and we want to thank each of you for the feedback you have given us. What started out three years ago as an attempt by our founder Jay to keep his story on track, has evolved through your feedback into a writing application that we’re incredibly proud of.  Plotist has developed a personality of its own and has become a powerful tool to help writers, roleplayers, game designers, and anyone else interested in stories. And this is just the be beginning.

Our Beta Foundations

During our time in beta, we’ve worked together with you to build Plotist’s foundation.  Our World Builder, Element Organiser, Visual Timeline, and Collaboration tools will be joined this month by our Writing and Outlining module. This final foundation piece will allow you to keep your stories organised in whatever world you create. We will have more about this in a post dedicated to the writing module itself when we release it. But if you scroll down, you can get a sneak peek.

Our current features are not just perfect for writers, but for any creative story pursuits you may be involved in. Dungeon Masters can work together on campaign world design. Roleplayers can create a timeline as their stories are being written. Screenwriters can keep track of scenes and events. How you use Plotist to accomplish your writing goals is only limited by your imagination.

What This Means for You

No doubt you’re wondering how Plotist leaving beta will impact you. We’re sure many of you are concerned about your worlds and what’s going to happen to them. In the words of the illustrious Douglas Adam’s “Don’t Panic”. This blog post will answer a lot of your questions about the immediate future. If you have a question not answered here, check our FAQ on our release. If you still have questions, reach out to us through either the forums or through our help center. We understand this is a big step not just for us, but for you as well. We want to be able to support you through this transition out of beta, just like you’ve helped us throughout the course of development.

Prices and Packages

The big question is what will Plotist cost? Plotist will be offering a subscription service. No matter what package you select, collaboration is included.

Celebration Sale

To celebrate coming out of beta we’re offering a discount for certain subscription plans until December 31, 2017 (see plans below). Not only that, but all our users will get a free 30 day trial of the Wordsmith package so you can try all of the features without having to commit to a particular plan (trial period will begin from the 2nd October for existing users and from the point of sign up for new users).

If you currently have more worlds set to private than is listed with your selected subscription, your private world(s) will still be accessible. You will be unable to edit, or make use of Plotist’s features on the extra private worlds, but you will still be able to read your content and export it.

As we stated, Collaboration will remain the same as it is now. Whether a world is public or private, you can work with your friends, find new ones to work with, or have your players or editors collaborate with you. However, to be able to collaborate on a private world, the owner will need a subscription tier that offers private worlds.  Worlds and stories will continue to have as many collaborators as the owner(s) desire without added cost.

Writing Module Sneak Peek

We’ll have a lot more information on what our new Writing module will include soon, but as you can see from the image above, great strides have been made to ensure you’re able to not just plan, plot, and organise your stories, but also to write with your notes on hand.

But wait, there’s more

This official foundation release, which brings us out of beta, is only the beginning for Plotist. Over the next few months we’ll be updating each tool in Plotist to offer even more features. You can look forward to having the ability to have multiple images for your individual elements (characters, locations, etc). We’ll also be adding ebook formatting and exporting, and offering ways to connect, comment, and improve the collaboration experience.

From the bottom of our hearts, all of us at Plotist want to thank all of you who have been with us through the beta to help us become what we are today. We have an amazing community of incredible creative minds, and we’re excited to see what you all come up with next.

Happy Plotting!
